The Foundation Stage

There are no tests at the end of the Foundation Stage but teachers will compile a profile of your child towards the end of their reception year. This gives a snapshot of where your child has reached, and where they may need support.

The Foundation Stage has a number of learning areas that are listed below. Each area is assessed to give a picture of your child's skills, understanding, knowledge and attitudes.
Foundation Stage learning areas:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication, language and literacy
  • Mathematical development
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development
